Why this Route is Special
Tenerife's southern promenade runs for more than 10 kilometres from La Caleta to Los Cristianos, and it is completely flat, smooth and step-free the whole way. It is one of the best mobility scooter routes anywhere in Europe, and you can ride the entire length without ever meeting a step or a steep hill.
Southern Tenerife has invested heavily in accessibility. The municipality of Arona has won awards for its accessible beach facilities and is one of the world's most visited destinations by travellers with reduced mobility.
The promenade — often called the "geranium walk" — connects four resort areas in one continuous, barrier-free path along the ocean. Wide, well surfaced, and lined with benches, cafés and shaded spots to rest
The route, section by section:
La Caleta to Playa del Duque (approx. 2km). The quietest end. A fishing village atmosphere, seafood restaurants, and views towards La Gomera. A good place to start early before it gets busy.
Playa del Duque to Fañabé (approx. 2km). Costa Adeje at its smartest. Playa del Duque and Playa Fañabé both have accessible facilities including ramps, wooden walkways and adapted toilets.
Fañabé to Puerto Colón (approx. 2km). Shops, bars and the marina. Puerto Colón has adapted access and reserved parking, and several whale and dolphin watching boats here are adapted for wheelchair users.
Puerto Colón to Playa de Troya (approx. 2km). The heart of Playa de las Américas. Busiest section, with plenty of places to stop.
Playa de Troya to Los Cristianos (approx. 2-3km). Ends at Playa de las Vistas, one of the island's best accessible beaches, and then into Los Cristianos town.
Accessible beaches along the way
Playa del Duque, Playa Fañabé, Playa de Torviscas, Playa de Troya and Playa de las Vistas all offer accessible facilities: entrance ramps, roll-out walkways to the water, accessible toilets and changing rooms, amphibious wheelchairs and assisted bathing.
Practical tips
Battery: the full route and back is around 20km. Our scooters have 36-50km range, so a full charge covers a whole day comfortably.
Timing: go before 11am or after 4pm in summer. Midday sun is intense and there is limited shade.
Take water. There are cafés throughout, but bring a bottle.
Sun protection. You will be exposed for most of the route.
You do not need a licence or insurance to use a mobility scooter here — they are legally treated the same as pedestrians.
