Do I Need a License?

No. You do not need a driving licence, insurance or registration to use a mobility scooter in Tenerife. Under Spanish law, mobility scooters designed for people with reduced mobility are treated as pedestrians, not as motor vehicles. You will not be fined and you do not need any paperwork.

What the law actually says

Spain's traffic authority (DGT) classifies mobility scooters for people with reduced mobility as mobility aids, in the same category as wheelchairs. This means:

• No driving licence required — of any kind, from any country

• No insurance required by law (though ours include liability insurance anyway)

• No registration, number plate or roadworthiness test

• No minimum or maximum age

Mobility scooters are specifically excluded from the rules that apply to electric scooters and e-bikes. Those are a different category with different requirements.

Who can use one?

Mobility scooters are for anyone with reduced mobility, a disability, or difficulty walking longer distances — whether permanent or temporary. Most of our customers are older visitors who can walk short distances but find a full day of sightseeing too much.

You do not need a Blue Badge, a disability certificate, or a doctor's note.

Where you can drive?

Because you are legally a pedestrian, you use pavements, promenades and pedestrian areas — not the road. You should travel at a speed similar to people walking around you. Crossing roads is done at pedestrian crossings, exactly as you would on foot.

The promenades of Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas are wide, flat and well surfaced, which makes them ideal.

What you actually need to rent one?

Just your passport or driving licence, shown at delivery for the rental agreement. That's it. No deposit and no advance payment — you pay when we deliver the scooter to your hotel.
